Original Item: Only One Available. This is an original WWI essential; the life saving trench periscope! Truly an invaluable item while engaged in trench warfare, this periscope is a WWI survivor. It remains in good original condition, retaining much of its U.S. WWI olive drab green paint. The periscope is complete with its original adjustable leg and does not appear to have ever had a belt clip. This example is stamped HQ on every square on the front and back, a very interesting addition which could be a unit marking. A great research opportunity!

The battlefield is viewed by the use of two opposing glass mirrors, one top, one bottom, held in a wooden case held together by twisted wire. A fairly crude design but it got the job done, and was cheap and easy to mass produce at the time.

The periscope is in very good condition, with the mirrors in great shape, just a little dirty. There is a bit of wear and some chipping to the wooden housing, but that is to be expected on any item this age. Measures just over 14 inches in length.
